Distance Foundation Certificate for TEB Programme

The aims of the course are to:

  • develop an understanding of the professional skills required of a business English teacher
  • identify the methodologies most effective in the business English classroom
  • develop an understanding of the basic business concepts and practices that the business English teacher is expected to be familiar with.

Target audience

English language teachers, interested in their own professional development, who wish to study at their own pace.

How will it be delivered?

Distance learning material will be sent to you on a weekly basis, by email or post. Candidates wishing to access the course over the Internet will be sent passwords. Each session (a session is made up of 3 lessons) will be accompanied by a detailed lesson plan, which you are free to try out with your Business English students. Candidates who are not in teaching positions have often been able to recruit their own groups from e.g. their circle of non-native friends or by offering their services on a voluntary basis to the local Adult Education Authority.

How is the course assessed?

The course will be assessed by means of a formal examination. The exam will be two and a half hours and will be split in to 3 sections.

  1. Worth 35% of the marks will require the candidate to demonstrate an awareness of professional skills. (e.g. needs analysis, syllabus / course design etc.)
  2. Worth 35% of the marks will require the candidate to demonstrate a knowledge of teaching business English methodologies (approaches, classroom management, materials etc.)
  3. Worth 30% of the marks will require the candidate to demonstrate a knowledge of basic business concepts and practices (business terminology, letter writing etc.)

Further examination information

Examinations will be held on fixed dates over the summer, Christmas, and Easter holidays and other dates if demand is sufficient. They will be held in our centres in Witney near Oxford and Barcelona. Candidates should allow 8-10 weeks after the exam for notification of results. Where numbers allow the examinations may also be held abroad in other locations.
